When we look back at our lives, we can see times of change, forks in the road, important decisions that lead us to where we are.
There are the days when we probably didn't feel like we were the ones making the choices. On those days we got to decide how we either reacted or responded. I know that in my experience it wasn't always the most skillful reaction.
Over the past decade or so I have had many challenges and changes in my life. I have used these as examples and non-examples of how I reacted or wished I had responded in my life. I can't go back for a do-over, but I can move forward with a little more grace and ease in my life.
I think that this takes self reflection and finding out exactly where I am before I can move forward. Years ago the portable GPS system that my family was using got itself stuck in San Francisco, any time that you wanted to map to a new location it thought that you were starting at Fisherman's Wharf. This wasn't helpful at all. I think that many of us still try to map from a location that we aren't in anymore. We have to decide where we actually are starting from before we can move forward. Sometimes this requires a reset, just like the old GPS system.
Sometimes the road ahead isn't as well lit as we would like it to be, but at least if you know where you are starting from, you can begin the mapping process. .
Sometimes you might need to hire a guide. Over the years I have had so many people help me along the way. I think that it's my roll now to Pay-it-Forward and help others along their journey. Any time that I learn a new practice that is helpful for my nervous system, or a stretch that heals the tired muscles, I want to teach it to everyone else.
I believe that these practices can be helpful to all of us, no matter where we are on our journey.
